Plans to close rail ticket offices in England scrapped

Due to overwhelming public opposition from Organise members like us, plus unions and disability campaigners, the government are making a dramatic and unprecedented U-turn on plans to close rail ticket offices in England.

Train company watchdogs have said today they received 750,000 responses to the consultation and 99% were objections - Organise members sent in 370,432 of those responses, just shy of half. Organise members also sent 7,855 emails to MPs and 34,021 people signed the petition calling for train ticket offices to remain open.

According to the BBC, rail bosses are "furious" at this outcome with the original plan to shut offices previously approved by the Department for Transport. Read more on BBC News here.
