Organise impact report: September 2025 - what we've achieved together this month

In the last few weeks, Organise members like you have come together to raise issues, find solutions, and win campaigns to make work better for our 1-million-strong community.

Together, we’re supporting worker-led campaigns that are impacting over 315,000 workers across the UK - including at major companies like Boots, Waterstones, John Lewis, Waitrose and the Co-op.

Here’s a snapshot of the Organise community’s recent impact 👇

🌡️ John Lewis staff and customers improve in-store temperatures

Thousands of John Lewis partners and customers have persuaded John Lewis to improve temperatures in stores.

It all began when hundreds of John Lewis workers used Organise to share stories of fainting in overheated shops and freezing winters when heating systems failed. Staff and customers teamed up to lobby John Lewis directly about the problem and request a simple solution: for local stores to control their own temperature.

Now John Lewis has already made changes to some stores. They’ve acknowledged that overheating is a major risk to staff and customers, and confirmed that all local teams can request temperature reviews:

“We want all our Partners and customers to be comfortable as they work and shop. Local teams can also request to have these temperatures reviewed - and we’ve made changes in some of our shops over the summer.” - John Lewis

This is proof that a worker-led campaign, backed by customers, is impossible to ignore and that together we’re already shifting John Lewis to act.

🏆 Primark worker with cancer improves company sick policies

Just weeks after a worker undergoing chemotherapy launched a campaign to improve sick pay and care at Primark, the company has committed to reviewing and changing their policies to support workers with long-term illnesses.

These changes wouldn’t have been possible without the Organise community, who stood in solidarity with workers with cancer by signing the worker’s petition and contacting Primark directly to express concern.

Primark have promised better policies, training for managers and more focus on wellbeing.

But together, we’ll continue to support this Primark worker, who wants Primark to make one more promise: to stop capability assessment for people undergoing chemotherapy (or other intensive treatments).

😷 Boots workers are making progress for sick pay

Boots workers are forcing the company to face up to its sick pay crisis that has exposed workers being denied sick pay and managers giving conflicting advice. [4]

After thousands of Boots workers and customers lobbied Boots directly - and then encouraged their MPs to hold Boots accountable too - Boots bosses are finally directly engaging with Boots workers and MPs on this issue.

This campaign started with Boots workers speaking out and now over 23,000 customers have backed them. 66% Boots customers say they’ll stop shopping at Boots until this is fixed.

Now Boots has finally confirmed they have a sick pay policy that’s just not being applied properly, Boots workers have a simple demand: Circulate the sick pay policy to every store and manager so workers know their rights.

🗞️ Co-op workers expose lone working

Hundreds of Co-op staff and customers have been writing to their MPs about the dangers of lone working. Already, MPs have confirmed to Co-op staff and customers that they’ve raised the issue directly with Co-op.

Meanwhile, thousands of Co-op workers are sounding the alarm: shoplifting and harassment increase when they’re left to work alone. Co-op bosses keep insisting there’s no evidence – but workers know otherwise so they’re running an investigation to expose the truth in a national media splash soon.

Together, we’re piling on the pressure ahead of a big meeting of Co-op bosses, members and politicians in November: it’s Co-op workers best upcoming opportunity to demand an end to lone working.

🔎 Uber drivers expose auto-firings

In just the past few months, Uber drivers and Organise members have exposed the problem that thousands of Uber drivers being auto-fired - when they’re automatically fired without any reason or way to appeal.

Together, thousands of Uber drivers and customers have persuaded the Department for Business and Trade and dozens of MPs to get involved - prompting a response from Uber and a push to bring in a new “review centre” for drivers.

Now, under pressure, Uber is visibly scrambling. The company has just emailed its entire UK customer base with new rules to crack down on fake reviews that trigger auto-firings. It’s a huge step forward but now Uber needs to address the real problem: a broken appeals process that leaves drivers fired by an app with no route to justice.

🙏 Organise community lobbies Government for better disability support

11,000 of us shared our experiences about access to work for disabled people with the Government’s “disability employment gap” consultation.

91% of us said the Government needs to do more to support disabled people and thousands of disabled people shared tangible ideas for the Government: better training for managers, more accessible and flexible working, and affordable transport.

From winning fair wages to changing the law, Organise members are at the forefront of making work better for all of us. These examples of impact highlight how important – and effective! – it is when we all come together to take action.
